HBO is making a big push with original films and shows as it branched out with HBO Max, hoping to steal more of the highly profitable streaming market.
The latest HBO Max original film is the coming-of-age drama Unpregnant, starring one of my favorite young actresses Haley Lu Richardson. She was fantastic in The Edge of Seventeen alongside Woody Harrelson, a must watch if you haven’t seen it already. Needless to say, I am not ashamed to admit I am a fan of a good coming-of-age film and this looks to be yet another solid entry in the sub-genre.
Unpregnant is based on a book written by Jenni Hendriks, and tells the story of a pregnant teen and her former best friend who embark on a road trip from Missouri to New Mexico. The movie is a road trip buddy comedy with plenty of life lessons and I like the 80’s vibe thanks to the awesome choice of vehicle for the long trek. Even though he seems to have a small supporting role, I always love seeing my man Giancarlo “Gus Fring” Esposito on-screen.
Unpregnant will be available to stream on HBO Max starting September 10th.
