The first two films have fared well in the box office and hope to see a similar result with the latest entry. • Director Wes Ball has specifically said he doesn't think the original book source of the trilogy should be split into two movies (as usually the final installment of young-adult movie series is split into two movies). He states that there should be a beginning, middle, and end, and that's it.
• Due to Dylan O'Brien's injury during filming, which he sustained in March 2016, and his eventual recovery, the release date of the movie, originally slated for 17th February, 2017, was postponed to January 12th, 2018. Filming for this film was immediately halted after O'Brien was hospitalized.
